Yachting Experience RYA Training Centre
Yachting Experience courses are part of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Sail Cruising Scheme that is available around the world. The programme comprises a series of complementary practical (on board a yacht) and shorebased (theory) courses. You can work through the system step by step or enter the programme at any stage according to your knowledge and experience.

There are no requirements to start at beginner’s level. We do suggest however certain minimum pre-course experience and knowledge for a number of courses. Also, if you need more background knowledge, it’s better to follow a shore based course (40 hours + exam) first and then the corresponding practical course. You will simply benefit more from the practical course if you have the suggested background knowledge.

We appreciate your challenges with taking a course. As well as demonstrating skills you can deliver with slick efficiency, you must also make attempts that might not be so successful at first. Building on your strong skills and eliminating your weaker points will make you a better and safer yachtsman or woman who gets more out of his/her yacht cruising. You take pleasure in going yacht cruising and having a good time is as important as learning. In fact we believe that you learn better when you’re enjoying yourself and have some fun. So that’s the way we run our courses.

Most practical courses last five days with one instructor and maximum five trainees. You will live on board the yacht and will be involved in all aspects of cruising. Setting the gennaker, washing up the tea cups, keeping a look out and planning tomorrow’s trip.

Whether you have never been on a boat and would like to find out what yachting is about or you are an experienced offshore skipper aspiring to become a Yachtmaster®, we will get you there in an enjoyable and professional way.
